The roots of Agile can be traced back as far as the late 50s to work conducted at IBM using incremental development processes. Early implementations of lightweight methods include Scrum (1995), Crystal Clear, Extreme Programming (1996), Adaptive Software Development, Feature Driven Development, Objectory (which evolved into RUP) and Dynamic Systems Development Method (DSDM) (1995). These are now typically referred to as agile methodologies, after the Agile Manifesto published in 2001.
There have been, and still are, many lightweight development processes but it is only relatively recently that they have been packaged under the Agile banner with the publication of the Agile Manifesto Agile is a very effective tool but there are factors that significantly erode the effectiveness and success rates of Agile (where no additional mitigation is undertaken):
- Large-scale development efforts (>20 developers)
- Distributed development efforts using non-collocated teams
- Prescribing / Forcing an agile process on a development team (while attempting a wider roll out of development process)
- Mission-critical and safety critical systems
It is in these areas that Lamri excels. We provide services to:
- Understand your agile capabilities – Agility Profiling Framework
- Use Agile in an environment with scale – Agile Integration Governance
- Deploy specific agile approaches – Agile Processes
- Applying Agile principles to business and process improvement – Agile Improvement Method
