David's recent experience includes

  • Mentoring and guiding the creation of a new service organization to provide business improvement and innovation services within the Technology Division. Using the CMMI for Services constellation as a guide, the service centre has achieved significant successes in delivering improved business processes within the Technology Division. David has worked with the management of the service centre to ensure the maturity of internal processes helping to increase the effectiveness and capability of service delivery. The service centre has been successfully appraised against the draft CMMI for Services Constellation.
  • Mentoring product development organizations in the Technology Division in the successful adoption of practices oriented to the achievement of CMMI Maturity Level 2 and above. The development processes are RUP-based, and critical concerns have been to realize the benefits of iterative development, harness the speed and flexibility of agile working whilst retaining the core benefits and risk avoidance inherent in the CMMI practices.
  • David took responsibility for ensuring that a business-critical engineering group achieved its CMMI related improvement goals. From a position of being a laggard in process improvement, the group was transformed into a leadership position. Specific, planned objectives were established and achieved within agreed timescales. The group has successfully taken part in a SCAMPI “A” appraisal and is now recognized as a leader within the department.

 

David is an experienced systems and software engineer, with a particular focus on working with user’s requirements and delivering solutions that are well aligned to the requirements. Understanding business processes and the way that systems will support them is critical to a successful delivery. David has extensive knowledge of UML-based system design techniques and over 12 years experience of working with UML and Business Process Modelling tools. He is co-author of Service and Component-based Development which describes a DSDM-based iterative approach to delivering service-oriented solutions. He has extensive experience of working with different processes and tool-sets, including RUP and elements of the Rational tool-suite, including Clear Case and Clear Quest.
For the last 15 years, David has specialized in mentoring and training client organizations through the successful adoption of development processes and tools to help clients successfully deliver against their users’ business needs. David works successfully at all levels in client organizations, helping senior management to understand the implications of process maturity and to form strategies for successful process improvement. He is an enthusiastic and successful mentor and trainer and has worked with clients in the UK, Europe, America and Australia.
David regularly presents at international conferences in Europe and in America. He is an SEI authorized instructor in the CMMI Development and Services constellations.
